There was a problem. For any other person, for any other Rider, this was no problem, it just was. This was the way of all dragons, but the woman didn't want it to happen to hers. The problem wasn't so much a problem as a way of life. But she still thought of it as a problem. Sparkth had tried to prolong it as long as she possible could. But the dragoness was just delaying the impossible. The inevitable. The way of nature.
"I don't want you to Fly!" Talia sobbed, her wide, innocent eyes threatening to spill tears.
Her dragon rounded on her, but Talia could not see anything but love in the scarlet dragoness's eyes. There was a light pink in the scarlet's eyes for nervousness, both because this was her maiden flight and Talia had never slept with any male figure before. The dragon feared for her more than she feared for her own life.
But now even Sparkth could mistake her glowing hide for anything else. A couple of tears spilled down the girl's face, and she flung herself at her dark red dragon. "Oh, no, Sparkth! I know you would never mean to hurt me!" Finally, after she was sure she had gotten her point through, she withdrew. Tears spilled down her face, but now she was sure she and Sparkth were ready. "Go, my dear love."
Sparkth rumbled an agreement and, letting her emotions take her, she sprung from the Weyr and made her way to the herdbeast pens. There she caught and bloodied a herdbeast without Talia having to tell her. Then, when she was done, she bugled her desire for a mate before finding another herdbeast.

F'orare and brown Gratmelth (from Glory Island Weyr) F'orara wasn't supposed to be at the weyr. He was supposed to leave the Islanders alone, for fear that his dragon might one day fly one, and mess up Pern genetics. He couldn't help that he had fallen in love with Talia, though he tried to keep it hidden from her. And Gratmelth couldn't help that he had found himself liking Sparkth and hoping that she would allow him to catch her on her maiden flight. Neither rider nor dragon ever really thought about the consequences until later, and by then it was too late. F'orare was walking on the beach, hoping Talia would come by, when he heard the bugle, a female rose into the sky. He heard Gratmelt answer with his own bugling reply, and without even realizing what was going on he was at the weyr, he had run to it, toward his dear Talia. Someone let him in and showed him to the flight room. He didn't even realize that it was Macara who kept him hidden from the rest of the weyr. The weyr would not be happy if Gratmelth caught Sparkth, but Gratmelth couldn't help but to chase. My dear Sparkth, I chase you! Gratmelth called out to the lovely scarlet in the sky. He blooded one beast before throwing it away to join the flight. Yes, he would fly well for his Sparkth!

G'ryen and Fire Vulcath (NPC, Alexei and Gavrie's father)
G'ryen had barely looked at another woman since his Agyness had died, but a male dragon had his needs, and Vulcath would occasionally chase after a rising female. When the Scarlet's bugle rang out through the Weyr, the Fire perked up, watching Sparkth fly across the Weyrbowl. So pretty...I just might have to chase!
If you must, Vulcath, G'ryen answered, going to find the woman. When he saw Talia, however, he wished there was a way to stop his dragon. Talia wasn't any older than his sons! Hopefully the other, younger rider would win.
Vulcath, however, didn't care who Sparkth's rider was. He only cared about the beautiful female. He snarled at the strange brown dragon. Why would you let this odd one catch you? A beauty such as you needs a real Marketa dragon! he declared, blooding a beast and joining in the Flight.
