It was time to introduce themselves to the eggs.
Deran knew the drill. He showed proper respect to the dam of the clutch with a bow and a soft, "Thank you."
Now. Which egg?
Obviously, he had to avoid the ones that were so small they could contain only pinks. Ugh. Sure, they needed pink riders, but he was not about to risk becoming one.
He liked the ruby colored egg, even if it was a little small. Would he mind a smaller copper or silver-bronze? Probably not.
Just as long as it wasn't a gold. He was not about to admit to his attraction to other men and Impressing a female dragon would give it away right off.
He stepped towards the ruby egg, then shook his head.
Smaller males had less chance with the females, thus less chance of becoming weyrleader.
How about...that one. He changed his course, over to a green egg, reaching to rest his hand on it. Hoping it contained a male, not a female.
Yeah. That was more like it. It was a nice -large- silver-bronze he wanted.
He was going to be weyrleader.
--
Irilia was also avoiding pink sized eggs. She curtseyed graciously to Halth.
However, small eggs she was not so worried about. Of course, it might matter if she Impressed a male, but female weyrleaders were rare anyway, and she didn't really want to be one.
Now. That was...wow. She hadn't even seen that egg! It was the same color as the sand, and she laughed a little bit. "Hey there, hiding little one," she told the sandy egg, reaching to touch it gently.
Then she moved on to the black egg. She'd like a midnight, she really would, but the appearance of the egg meant nothing for the color of the dragon. One could usually spot the pinks, but other than that, this egg was as likely to contain a gold or a fire.
She'd like a gold, too. She also wouldn't mind a copper, oddly enough.
Unlike her brother, she didn't keep her sexuality under her hat.
Maybe an aqua. Aquas were so pretty...

The blond girl was not the first one on the sands. In fact, another woman and her dragon, a scarlet, as well as two other candidates, were on the sands before her. The girl knew that the woman was not the Rider of the dragon who clutched these eggs.
In fact, Talia was not the Rider of the dragon who clutched the eggs. In fact, Sparkth had been the one who insisted on coming to see the eggs. She was so close to Flying that she needed the comfort of something else to keep her occupied. Talia absentmindedly stroked Kratle, her dog. Crown hung over Sparkth's head, chirping and, when he landed for at least five seconds, preening himself. Talia had never really wanted to come to the Grounds. But, of course, she couldn't not come. Sparkth was going to have eggs soon. Sparkth was going to need to stay here with her eggs, if she ever clutched any. Sparkth was so full of worry that it dragged to Talia, who gulped and petted Kratle harder. Kratle barked unhappily and squeezed out of her arms, to go straight to the girl entering the Grounds (he had already checked out the other two from afar).
Zenniel watched as the small canid loped forward. He was headed straight for her, and his ears were perked forward, as if hoping she was going to give him something. She smiled, but showed him empty palms. Rejected, he first barked at her fire-lizards (Hera hissed back at him, which he ignored), and then returned to his owner. Laughing silently, for she was too shy to laugh aloud, a large egg caught her eye. Zenniel headed toward the Diamond Egg, one of the largest eggs of the clutch. When she touched it, and muttered words of praise to its inhabitant, another egg, the Cinnamon Egg caught her eye. Grinning, she ran her hand over it's smooth cinnamon-colored surface. Then, as if drawn forward, she moved for the Dusk Egg. The small egg took her, and she grinned at the egg that she knew would hold a Pink. She had no qualms about Pinks. "I hope you find the one you love!" Before she moved on to the Black Egg.

Lainy came to the egg touching in a good mood with Maylit sitting on her shoulder. Lainy had on fiery red clothes, she just couldn't stop thinking fire.
She quickly bowed to the scarlet queen and went for the closest egg, she didn't mind touching pinks eggs, she wasn't going to impress one anyway. A nice fire would be nice, except that she didn't care for other females, she liked guys, and so what if she liked them a touch feminine, like a male riding a female dragon...
As she touched the eggs, kind of angling for the bigger ones she noticed Daren, and with a smile she sort of went close to him, making sure not to trip on the sand egg. "Hi Deran," She said with a sort of happy fire burning in her. So what if she was happy and energetic, at least she wasn't having one of her fiery blowouts.

Deran glanced over. "Oh, hey, Lainy." Had she just touched an obvious pink egg?
Maybe she had just that much confidence. "I think this egg has a copper in it," he predicted. "But I'm probably wrong. I'm lousy at guessing eggs."
Irilia did better, but he wasn't about to admit to that. She was currently focused on the forest egg.
"What are you hoping to Impress?" He stepped back a bit, so she could touch the sand egg.
"I think I'd like a silver-bronze, myself."

"I am going to get a fire or a midnight," Lainy said proudly. She had seen the look he had given her when she had touched a nearby pink egg.
Smiling she added, "And I am not scared to touch pink because I know that I won't impress it because I am not a pink type of person." Her remark was daring, daring him to show he had confidence in what he would impress and to touch a pink. She then added, "I have way to much fire for pink," Her eyes lighting up mischievously. Oh yes, she was fire and the fire in her soul felt like teasing right now. "Bet you are not confident enough in what you will impress to touch pink," she said, finally verbalizing her dare.

Deran laughed. "I won't Impress pink."
To prove it, he strode straight over to the gray egg, touched it, and then walked back.
"Only losers Impress pink. Or people who simply don't deserve or want better."
He glanced at Zenniel. "But look at her. She's loveydoveying one."
It was true. She was paying an inordinate amount of attention to what was clearly a pink egg.
He glanced around for Iri and was relieved to see that she was hanging out next to a -huge- egg that looked like an uncut diamond. Maybe she was hoping it had a big midnight or scarlet in it.
No. Iri wouldn't Impress scarlet. "I'm figuring my sister for gold."

"I think your sister will impress Aqua, Golds are such whiners. It would be funny if you impressed pink," Lainy said with a malicious grin. This was turning out to be fun.
"But you will probably impress Teal or Silver-Gold, to bad, it would have been so much fun if you had impressed pink. What would be really fun is if you impressed a female dragon. Maybe an Emerald," Lainy said jokingly. She wondered how he would take this joke. Thinking about, she did wonder what sort of female he would impress if he impressed a female dragon.

Deran snorted. "And have the entire Weyr think I'm gay? No thanks."
And he considered that. "Aqua could work. I don't see her as scarlet or midnight and -definitely- not emerald." He studied Lainy. "You don't mind a male...are you gay?"
It was his bit of revenge on her for her 'joke' about emeralds.
If he did Impress a female, it was...mentally, he frowned. He couldn't see himself with..."And I can't see myself with any of the females. Not really. You're the second person who's suggested teal, though."
He contemplated that.

The girl was immune to everyone else's talking. She didn't care what color she got. Dragons were dragons, and that was that. She liked B'mre and his pink, Zenth. She liked the other Pinks, and thought that they were just a little smaller than normal colors. She knew about the continental colors, and how they were all different sizes, so why should just one color of dragon become drudge dragons? Why should their freedom be taken away from them for their coloring?
Just to prove that she didn't care what color she wanted, the girl headed to the Rosy Quartz Egg. She touched it lightly, wondering at its brilliant light color. She knew it would hatch a pink. It was so small, it was dwarfed by the Diamond Egg next to it. She gently caressed it, knowing that the pink inside would be subject to harsh times the whole time it was alive. Though she didn't necessarily want a Pink, she had always been sensitive to their thoughts. They took nothing for granted, unlike the other colors, and they were hard workers. She would rather have one of the other colors, but she could live with a Pink.
This one is strange. Sparkth said, speaking to her timid rider. Talia nodded, keeping one hand on Sparkth, as if she needed to know that the Scarlet was always there. Zenniel heard what Sparkth said, and she grinned to herself. She knew she was strange, but she didn't care. She moved over to the Forest Egg, marveling in it's green coloring.

Alexei and Gavrie entered together. They had both seen Hatchings before, but this was the first time they were standing for a clutch, so neither had ever had a chance to touch the eggs. Alexei was excited, but Gavrie was nervous. The eggs seemed so delicate. What if he hurt one of the dragons inside? Sofia, perched on his shoulder, gave a little chirp, picking up on her bonded's nerves.
"Come on, loosen up," Alexei muttered to his brother, punching him playfully in the arm. Gavrie rolled his eyes and looked around, trying to pick which eggs to touch. Alexei, always the confident one, headed for the extra large Raspberry Egg first, patting the big red egg thoughtfully. "Hmm, I bet you'll be a big Teal," he guessed. Either that, or one of the females. If that was the case, he didn't need to bother with this egg, but touching it wouldn't hurt anything.
Gavrie noticed a very small, plain egg that looked like it didn't belong. Going over to the Plain Egg, he knelt beside it, running his fingers over the shell. He thought it might be a dud. It seemed too small to even be a pink. Sighing, he gave the egg a pat before moving on to the green Forest Egg, which seemed unassuming enough.
Alexei went to the Blue Egg next, obviously favoring the biggest eggs. He didn't mind smaller dragons, but he had been raised to desire a big, strong mount. When he was done with the Blue Egg, he looked up to see his twin brushing his fingers over the Red and Black Stripe Egg. Gasping, Alexei ran and pushed his brother away from the egg. Sofia squawked, hissing at Alexei and struggling to hold on to Gavrie's shoulder.
"Gavrie! What are you doing? That egg is pink," Alexei scolded, a horrified look on his face. Gavrie just sighed and shook his head, not even bothering to answer his brother. Stroking Sofia's green hide to soothe her, he walked to one of the other eggs, the Cinnamon Egg, mostly to appease Alexei. Alexei rolled his eyes, not sure what to think of his brother, and headed for the Patched Egg.
